Responsibilities of the Interpreter


  1. Facilitate Communication


  2. Make an informal assessment of the deaf consumer’s mode of communication and language level by talking with the deaf consumer before the scheduled event

  3. Do not assume more than one role at a time

  4. If the deaf consumer has speech, ask whether he/she wishes to have you voice for him/her

  5. Be a cultural broker (help people feel comfortable)

  6. Follow the RID Code of Ethics


  7. Take care of yourself
